MINDY SHEAR POUPKO
CEO, Mindy Shear Make Up

I own a Make Up Company.  I do make up for celebrities, women who are busy and want to learn to an easy make up routine, brides, make up for corporate shoots, glam and editorial photo shoots, TV, film and all events.  I was the first to bring red carpet airbrush make up to Montreal for everyday flawless beauty and I was the first in Canada to create an only Mineral Make Up Like called Mindy Shear Mineral Make Up with over 350 products and colours.

I had my son on my own, I was a single mother running a business and taking care of my son alone until I got married November 2011 to a wonderful man who is a prominent Rabbi.  We are both high profile in our professions.  We both strongly support each other.   I attend his events and my husband gets thrown into the fashion world from time to time!  The best is when our professions overlap.  Last year we did a destination wedding in Venice, Italy.  My husband officiated the wedding and I did the make up for the bride and bridal party.  We have another one coming up this year as well in South Beach.

My Son Shalev is 4 years old.  He was born 2 months premature.  He had health issues and he had to be watched like a hawk.  I was running between work and doctors.  Thank G-D he has grown out of everything when he was about 3 ½.  Shalevi is such a sweet, compassionate, smart, and beyond his years.  The questions he asks, or comments he makes, I feel like I am talking to a 30 year old!!  He is loving, affectionate and helpful.  He is my miracle baby and with all the hardships I endured during pregnancy and after, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Secrets of a WOWMOM
One Day At a Time, learn to prioritize, what is important and what isn’t and to pick your battles at work and home.

What inspires me
My grandmother who survived the holocaust, my mother who raised 2 kids on her own, my brilliant husband, our kids, travel, anything beauty, fashion and art.

My sanity saviour (tips & time savers)
Having a nanny!!

My best WOWMOM advice
Teach your kids independence, let them learn to clean up after themselves that not everything gets done for them. There are consequences to their actions, not to be a helicopter parent!

My WOW moment
Getting a letter from school about how Shalev behaves, how he had advanced and answered questions most kids his age don’t understand. How much everyone loves him, friends, teachers and other parents.  For the first time, I felt that all the hard work and sacrifices made during the 1st 3 ½ years finally paid off.

My not-so WOW moment
After days of Shalev being so rude and obnoxious to me, his great grandmother and my nanny, I lost it and gave him a smack on his tush!!  Not so wowmom but it worked!

Keeping it WOW (how not to lose yourself)
I find quiet times for myself everyday so I can think plan or just zone out so I can be a better Mom and business owner.

Favourite MOMent of the day
Drinking my morning latte and hearing “good morning Mommy” with a big smile on my son’s face!!

Does balance exist?
Only with the right support being, family, spouse, friends, employees.  Without help balance does not exist!  It would be impossible to run a business, take care of kids and find some time for yourself.  Balance would be much easier with normal job.

My guardian angel
G-D!

The last time I laughed out loud
The other night when my son asked his great uncle, a Judge in New York, “what to you do for work and how do you do it” My uncle answered  him as he would an adult, that he is a Judge and explained what a judge does.  My Son then asked “What make you decide your decisions”  I almost fell off my chair!!

Words Of Wisdom (Mom’s message to My Kids)
I teach my son this everyday, to be polite and respectful, be helpful to others, to share, to give charity everyday, to save his money, so we opened a bank account for him. To take care of his things, don’t waste food or money. Not to be afraid to at least try! It’s ok to be upset, but to talk about it rather than throw fits. Belief in G-d is important. To respect elders. That he doesn’t know everything!! He is loved by a lot of people in his life. In order to grow, you need to sleep, eat and exercise properly. To work hard at whatever he does.
